Remote Learning at MCMS

MCMS Families,

As you know, Dr. Himsel has informed the district of our need to go remote at the three secondary buildings until November 30. Below, you will find specific details regarding the plans for Maple Creek Middle School. The daily schedule is linked below as well as a calendar for our even/odd days. We will begin Friday November 13, with an even block day.  Students who are already enrolled in remote learning classes will follow the attached block schedule until onsite instruction resumes.

  • We will follow a block schedule format with four periods each day.
  • Classes are 70 minutes in length.
  • Students are required to stay in the class as long as the teacher keeps them (even if it is all 70 minutes). Times may vary depending on the lesson.
  • Students must report to all classes
    • This includes labs and study halls
  • Office hours are available daily for students to check-in with teachers and get support. (academically, emotionally, and with technology when applicable)

  • Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class.
  • If a student leaves early, then he/she will be marked absent.
  • Students will have attendance taken in labs and study halls.
  • Absences need to be called-in to school
    • Please continue to call when your child has symptoms, tests positive, or comes in contact with someone who has tested positive.  We need to continue to keep track in order to properly re-open.

Homework Policy

Overall, our students have a done a great job completing their work during our times of remote learning; however, a few students chose to not complete the assigned work. At the end of the semester, students/families were contacting teachers on the last day for make-up work. We will not be allowing make-up work beyond the classroom policy. The expectations have been covered with students. If a student chooses to not show up or not complete work before the due date, it will not be accepted. Please monitor Powerschool for grade information. If you need access to Powerschool, then please reach out to the MCMS office, (260) 338-0802.

Tech Support

  • If you are having issues, then please follow the instructions at:
  • If you are not able to access your device, then please call the technology help desk at (260) 338-5320.

Internet access

  • We have been in communication with families based on their responses to Powerschool at registration. If something has changed and you no longer have access to the internet, please call the office at MCMS, (260) 338-0802.

Extracurricular Activities

  • All practices for athletics, clubs and activities are cancelled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Practices may resume Monday pending the submission and approval of practice/meeting activities. These decisions will be made over the next few days and will be communicated through coaches/sponsors.

  • All students will be offered two days’ worth of meals on their way out of the building today. This will include breakfast and lunch to account for Friday and Monday.
  • Instructions to receive meals during the remote closing can be found here.

Thank you for your continued support! This has been an extremely challenging year for everyone. This is not something we had hoped to do, but we will take it in stride and continue to move our students forward academically and emotionally. Please feel free to reach out to teachers, counselors, or administrators with any questions.
